Martin Luther King III and Daughter, Yolanda Renee King, Speak About Preserving MLK’s Legacy
Martin Luther King III said his mother (the person who spearheaded making the day a national holiday), Coretta Scott King, always said the Martin Luther King Holiday is a day on, not a day off. Speaking on the recent shutdown of the government he said, “Something has got to change and give for the United States of America. We are far better than the behavior we are exhibiting.”
Although the King Center in Atlanta is run by the National Park Service, they will have the traditional holiday celebration due to a grant from Delta Airlines. Delta is a huge supporter of civil rights activities in Atlanta.
