Statement from Angelyne Butler:
I am Angelyne Butler, YOUR 2017 Mayoral candidate for the City of Forest Park. I am in this race to inspire the 14 year old girl, like me, who made an adult decision that changed the course of her life. The single mothers, who continue to provide for their families despite limited support, sustain me. I continue this race for those viewed as a statistic and discounted. I fight for our city, which deserves a vision. One that involves inclusion, transparency and accountability, where we benefit from the promise of economic growth and education is a priority. A vision where residential opportunity promotes homeownership, cultivates income based housing and where social empowerment embraces our commonalities. I am here as a declaration that YOUR test shall become YOUR testimony.
I have pledged my life to public service. Beginning with my academic achievements where I acquired my Bachelors in Political Science from Spelman College, a Masters in Public Administration from Troy University and a Doctoral candidate in Public Policy and Administration from Walden University. Notwithstanding, my 10 years of professional public service.
My fondest memory growing up was walking to my fathers office after school. In that I witnessed my father make decision of the military base in which we lived, the military base in which he was responsible for in addition to the countless service men and women that reported to him. Often times his decision was met with resistance. Yet he never wavered and always maintained his integrity. Lessons such as maintaining your integrity, stay engaged and proactive it is OK if I do not have an answer as long as I surround myself by people who do, sometimes I will be a self-driving advocate especially when I am forced to stand alone a person’s commentary of me is often a reflection of themselves I do not have to dim my light in order for someone else’s to shine Lastly, never be entertained, impressed or intimidated by others seeking the same position are not only lessons that I pass on to my baby but aide me in this journey towards becoming the next Mayor of Forest Park.
