Washington, DC – On Friday, September 18, 2015, and Perennial Strategy Group joined together to host the seventh annual Evening of Excellence, which this year recognized individuals who have greatly empowered the lives of youth and young professionals through mentorship and advocacy. Hosted as a part of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) 45th Annual Legislative Conference, over 600 guests attended the event at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

“The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation has a rich history of advocating for the positive evolution and transformation of our communities, so by choosing to honor influential African-American leaders who have served as trusted mentors and allies to young lives, we continue to celebrate the very essence of the CBCF,” said Perennial Strategy Group’s Founder and CEO Lamell McMorris. “Accordingly, it’s especially important that this event take place during the annual conference, and we hope that the honorees’ stories serve as an inspiration to those who have continued to embrace this event.”

At the event, distinguished guests and members of Congress presented awards to influential leaders and advocates of change, including Angela Rye, principal and CEO of Impact Strategies and founder of Team Impact, and Curley Dossman, president of the Georgia-Pacific Foundation and chairman of the board of 100 Black Men of America. Additionally, the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to The Honorable U.W. Clemon, a former Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, and the first African-American appointed to the federal bench in Alabama. White House Assistant to the President and Cabinet Secretary Broderick Johnson accepted an award on behalf of My Brother’s Keeper as chair of the initiative’s task force. Songwriter and DJ MC Lyte served as the event’s emcee, Grammy-winning Anthony Hamilton provided a special performance, and Doug E. Fresh, Dana Dane, and Chubb Rock provided entertainment at the after-party.
