Film & Stage Star Obba Babatundé to Host Angel City Links’ Celebration of 27 Extraordinary Young African American Men

Beverly Hills, CA – The Angel City Chapter of Links, Inc. is celebrating its 33rd anniversary of “The Affair of Honor” with ceremonies to be held at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, CA on Saturday, April 26. Film and stage star, Obba Babatundé (“Dreamgirls,” “Chicago,” “Philadelphia”) will host the event.

Explains Susan Cole Hill, president of the Angel City Chapter, “Our Achiever Program is a five-month endeavor that works to ensure our community is stronger each year by supporting our young African American male students who are graduating from high school. We give them the tools to achieve in college so they can become credible, impactful citizens of the world.We work through The Achiever Program, a Legacy award-winning program under the Services to Youth.”

Hill continued, “Links facet, and in partnership with motivational coach, Tony Magee and confreres who are successful men in our community and sponsors and donors.In partnership with Achievement Trust, the Angel City Links have surpassed the $2.5 million mark in awards and scholarships with offerings to more than 1100 young men over the years. The culmination of the Achiever Program is the “Affair of Honor.”

To qualify as a candidate for the prestigious Links Achievers course, the young men must carry a 2.5 GPA, be active in school and community projects and have other outstanding personal and academic skills. This year’s class is future doctors, lawyers, professional athletes, and many will work in the film industry, health and computer sciences.

The Affair of Honor is being held at the Saban Theatre for the first time this year, as its multi-million dollar renovations link its historic past with modern future. The program will be videotaped by Innov8-Creative Group for airing later this year.

“This is exactly the kind of program that nourishes our young men and provides them with wisdom and opportunity. I am very honored to be participating,” offers Obba Babatundé.

In addition to serving as host and choreographer, Babatundé is producing and directing the ceremonies with his production partner, award-winning writer/ producer/ director Ruth Adkins Robinson.
