Minority Real Estate Trade Association, @NAREB, Installs News Leadership
Washington, DC – Members of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB®), installed real estate broker, Donnell Spivey to lead the nation’s oldest minority professional trade group as its 28th president. Out-going president, Julius Cartwright, passed the ceremonial gavel during the culminating event of NAREB’s 66th Annual Convention held August 4th through August 7th at the Denver, CO Grand Hyatt Denver. The more than 500 attendees including NAREB Realtists®, financial services industry executives, homeownership advocates, asset managers, and others were in attendance and applauded Mr. Spivey’s vision for his two-year tenure.
In his first remarks as president, Mr. Spivey bringing nearly 28 years of deep-rooted experience in the real estate industry stated, “Together, we have maintained NAREB as the voice for people of color….As your president, I promise and look forward to representing our organization [NAREB] as we continue to work to achieve Democracy in Housing.”
Established in 1947 to ensure equal housing opportunity for African American homeowners and real estate professionals, NAREB has grown to 93 chapters, nationwide. Central to Mr. Spivey’s platform is galvanizing the expertise and reach within each locally-based organization to ensure that NAREB’s advocacy on behalf of homeownership opportunities for African Americans and other people of color remains in the forefront of local, state and federal policymakers.
Other members of the new leadership team were also installed along with Mr. Spivey. Serving with him for a two-year term are: First Vice President, Ron Cooper of Los Angeles, CA; Second Vice President, Jeffrey Hicks of Atlanta, GA; Third Vice President, Donnell Williams of Newark, NJ, along with other members of the board of directors.
Mr. Spivey’s real estate brokerage, EXIT Spivey Professional Realty is located in Ellicott City, MD and serves the housing and commercial real estate needs of the Baltimore, MD metropolitan area in specific, and the State of Maryland. Active in his community, Donnell has been the recipient of numerous professional awards and civic recognitions for his commitment to equality in housing, industry integrity, and community development. Son of a Merry Hill, NC sharecropper located near Windsor, Spivey credits his success to hard work and his reliance on strong family values.
