New Orleans, LA – The US Virgin Islands Department of Tourism continues to strengthen its partnership with the African American community.
The territory’s Department of Tourism supported the 37th National Association of Black Journalists’ (NABJ) Convention and Career Fair in New Orleans June 20-24, 2012 with its firm support of the high-level NABJ’s Founders’ Reception at the Louisiana State Museum.
In an innovative move, the Department of Tourism also powered the convention’s mobile app which provided some 2,400 journalists and other communications professionals with access to the full conference agenda, maps, exhibitor information, Twitter feed and other information right from their smartphones and tablets.
The environmentally-friendly app allowed attendees to access the most current information about convention activities in real time, while reminding them of the allure of the USVI.
Pointing to the territory’s historic relationship with African American journalists and communications professionals, Commissioner of Tourism Beverly Nicholson-Doty noted the Department of Tourism is “serious about strengthening partnerships to attract many more African American travelers to our shores.”
This is the second successive year the US Virgin Islands has supported NABJ’s annual gathering and the Commissioner recalled: “Since the last convention, we have been welcoming more African American journalists on press trips, and look forward to NABJ’s leadership staging future meetings and retreats in the Territory.”
