Atlanta, GA – Over 1500 Atlanta area senior citizens dressed in their Sunday Best enjoyed a little opera, gospel, square dancing, gifts and a good turkey dinner, during SCLC/Women’s Organizational Movement for Equality Now’s (SCLC/WOMEN) 31st annual Senior’s Christmas Party last week at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park.

The party got live when Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed joined the agile seniors in the electric slide and showed off his fancy footwork. Led by SCLC/WOMEN’s Mentees, Fox 5’s Lisa Rayam and Santa joined the line dance. Even Evelyn Gibson Lowery, founder and chair of SCLC/WOMEN, was sighted tapping her foot.

Lowery said, “This was the best year yet. We had a very diverse audience and there was something for everyone. You never know what’s going on behind closed doors, especially in theses hard times. This event is an opportunity to make sure our senior’s have a little fun during the holiday’s and to show them they are appreciated.”

The wife of civil rights icon Rev. Joseph E. Lowery added, “We’re not finished. Our children’s party is Saturday December 18th at the Adamsville Recreation Center. Santa will stop by to give out lots of presents.”

Entertainment included opera singer, Dr. Sharon J. Willis; musician, William “Bill” Odum; gospel singer, Pastor Vandarray; and square dancers from Quality Living Services.
