Afri Decarbonization Corporation Announces Collaboration with HBCU Green Fund

0

To advance the conservation goals of Earth Day 2024, Afri Decarbonization Corporation (ADC) is excited to announce a new collaboration with the HBCU Green Fund (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) to deploy innovative nature-based climate solutions in West Africa. The partners share a commitment to decarbonization strategies that empower communities with local production, processing and distribution for real impact. The goal is to unleash annual carbon credit opportunities that have been established in Cross River State.

Dr. Ikem of Cross River State University of Technology (CRUTECH) will train students, staff, faculty and smallholder farmers in production of biochar, an organic fertilizer that removes carbon and generates carbon credits. Biochar kilns will be distributed to smallholder farmers to turn waste biomass from forest and food crops into biochar organic fertilizer enhancing production. ADC biochar is a locally fabricated low cost, low tech nature-based sustainable solution that captures carbon and generates carbon credits.

“We work to connect students and faculty from HBCUs with African peers to develop and expand climate adaptation. Mitigation projects and nature-based solutions are among our highest priorities. We believe our partnership with ADC has the potential to be transformative.” Felicia Davis, Fund Founder.

“ADC is excited to build this strategic partnership with the HBCU Green Fund as we bridge the sustainable development gap between Africa and America using nature-based innovations to lift our people out of poverty and into agribusiness”, stated Dr. Victor Udo, Chairman/CEO. ADC’s M.O.U. with the Cross River State Government (CRSG) includes sustainable management of 1.6 million hectares of forest and 200,000 hectares of food and bamboo farming for local processing and export.

With HBCU Green Fund’s initial investment ADC will procure ten Biochar kilns to be fabricated at CRUTECH. Professor Michael Shafer, an international biochar expert, will provide local capacity building in partnership with smallholder farmers, ADC and the Cross River State Government.
ADC is a U.S. based social impact firm with subsidiaries in Nigeria and Ghana working with smallholder farmers to implement nature-based climate change solutions including biochar carbon removal and ecosystem restoration.
