League of Women Voters of Atlanta-Fulton County, Emory University, and the Urban League of Greater Atlanta to host Atlanta Mayoral Forum
(Sept. 24, 2021, ATLANTA) – Atlanta voters are encouraged to mark their calendars for a combined online and in-person event to meet the candidates for Mayor of Atlanta on Oct. 5, 2021, from 6-9 p.m. Moderated by Jocelyn Dorsey, retired director of editorials and public affairs at WSB-TV, the forum at the Glenn Memorial Auditorium will help voters gauge the strength of the candidates and solidify their choice.
“The Emory community looks forward to hosting the Atlanta mayoral candidates for a forum on key issues affecting our great city,” says Emory President Gregory L. Fenves. “Emory appreciates its partnership with the City of Atlanta and I’m excited that this important conversation will take place on our campus.”
“To ensure change in our communities we must vote in every election, not just every four years,” says Nichola Hines, president of the League of Women Voters Atlanta-Fulton County. “LWVAF goal is to make sure that our residences of the City of Atlanta and Fulton County are educated, empowered and engaged in the political process.”
The Oct. 5 event will feature a meet-and-greet from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by the forum from 7 to 9 p.m.
“We encourage you to pay attention now to our city’s Mayoral race, research the positions of the candidates, make your selection, check your registration status and polling location, then vote,” says Nancy Flake Johnson, president and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Atlanta.
“Atlanta is our capital city and sets a standard for inclusiveness and multiracial democracy. This forum will help voters make an informed decision with respect to choosing leaders who will govern in that spirit,” said Andrea Young, executive director of the ACLU of Georgia.

In-person participation at Glenn Memorial Auditorium, 1660 N. Decatur Road, Atlanta, will require masks and social distancing. Attendees are required to register in advance athttps://coamayoralforum21.eventbrite.com. All candidates, attendees, and organizers will be required to undergo a free, COVID-19 PCR rapid test onsite. Candidates who test positive will be asked to leave the event and participate via Zoom. Emory University requires all attendees to wear masks.
