ATLANTA – Under the leadership of Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Zeddie Scott, the congregation of Liberty Baptist Church-Atlanta will dedicate Sunday, September 29, 2019 worship services to uplifting Morris Brown College and recognizing the major contributions the historically black college’s alumni have made to empower the African American community. Liberty Baptist will also confer special presentations to four graduates of the college who have demonstrated excellence and a lifetime of achievement.

“Morris Brown College is among the many HBCU’s that was created to meet the educational needs of black students who could not attend white institutions of higher education,” says Rev. Dr. Scott. “It became a place that not only educated students in their designated major, it provides a nurturing cultural experience and prepares students to give back to their communities.”

Rev. Dr. Scott continues, “The congregation of Liberty Baptist Church will lift up Morris Brown’s vast accomplishments and bring attention to their current efforts to restore their standing within the higher education community. They will also highlight the important contributions four Morris Brown alumni have made to society.”

The Morris Brown alumni who will receive special presentations are: global business executive, Sharon Hall; retired Atlanta Public School administrator and current Morris Brown professor, Dr. Henry J. Porter; award-wining actor, Thomas Jefferson Byrd; and civic leader and radio personality, Derrick Boazman,

Located in Atlanta’s Auburn Avenue community footsteps away from The King Center, the historic Liberty Baptist Church was founded in May 17, 1908 as a Missionary Baptist Church led by Dr. J. W. Jackson. In 2017 Liberty called Dr. Zeddie D. Scott to serve as interim pastor and Dr. Scott accepted the call as Liberty’s eleventh pastor in April, 2018.

Morris Brown College, founded in 1881 by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, is a private, coeducational, liberal arts college engaged in teaching and public service with special focus in leadership, management, entrepreneurship and technology. The school recently embarked upon a campaign to raise $20 million by 2020.
