Bush hopes to become the first African American Congresswoman from Missouri

Ferguson Activist Cori Bush will honor the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4th at a special reception in Washington, D.C. Held at the popular gathering place for progressives, activists and believers in democracy—Busboys & Poets on 14th Street, NW—Cori will engage with the D.C. community about livable wages for all workers, universal healthcare, investing in America’s infrastructure and justice.

“I was on the frontline in Ferguson after the shooting of Michael Brown” states Cori Bush. “As the result of raising our voices, organizing the community and demanding respect, many changes are underway that’s transforming our community. I now have my goals set for becoming a member of the U.S. Congress to make what’s beginning to happen in Ferguson and St. Louis a reality in communities around the country.”

Cori Bush is no stranger to adversity and struggle. She has been homeless and abused. But through struggle and dedication she graduated from nursing school, began a career as a transplant nurse and become an ordained pastor. Immediately following the brutal killing of Michael Brown, Cori co-founded the Truth Telling Project as a platform for people who have experienced injustices to share their stories with the entire world.

Today Cori is running to be the first African American woman from Missouri to be a member of the U.S. Congress. Leaders like Cori Bush are needed in Congress to push for universal health care coverage, raising the minimum wage, defending due process protections, fighting for proper investments in education, job training and infrastructure.

Be the first in Washington, D.C. to meet Cori Bush. The reception is from 7-9pm. Although the event is free and open to the public, donations of any amount are encouraged. #BeThe1st
