Nefertite Nguvu’s Feature Film ‘In The Morning’ Released Nationwide on Video On Demand
Today, indie filmmaker Nefertite Nguvu, announced that her award-winning feature film, In The Morning will be released on Video on Demand on the following platforms: Amazon, Vimeo on Demand, Xfinity Streampix and VHX.
In The Morning charts the emotional anatomy of the lives, loves, infidelities, and enduring friendships of a group of interconnected New Yorkers over the course of one day. The sophisticated adult drama has both the humor and intensity reminiscent of early Spike Lee and Woody Allen films, yet marks the arrival of a bold new voice in filmmaking.
“I made In The Morning with the hope that it would reach diverse audiences. I am thrilled to now have the opportunity to connect our film directly with a much wider viewership with our release on Video on Demand,” says Nefertite Nguvu. “Now, more than ever, we need to see images that authentically represent the breadth, depth, and scope of the lives of people of color. In The Morning illuminates an underrepresented facet of African American life and presents thoughtful, complex, three-dimensional characters. Above all else, I want to help expand the lens through which we see ourselves. I am excited to be able to have the opportunity to do so and to share our film worldwide.”
Photographed by award-winning cinematographer Arthur Jafa (Daughters Of The Dust, Crooklyn), and color timed by Malik Sayeed (Belly), the film’s ensemble cast consists of emerging talent: Jacky Ido (star of Shonda Rhimes’ The Catch) Emayatzy Corinealdi (Addicted, Middle of Nowhere, and Don Cheadle’s Miles Davis biopic), Numa Perrier (The Couple), Kim Hill (soul singer, original lead singer of The Black Eyed Peas), De’adre Aziza (VH1’s The Breaks, Tony Nominated Broadway actor Passing Strange) Hoji Fortuna (Viva Riva) JoNell Kennedy (Me And You And Everyone We Know) and making debut’s Alzo Slade and CJ Lindsey.
In The Morning debuted at the UrbanWorld Film Festival in New York City and won the Audience Award for Best Feature Film. After a string of successful film festival screenings across the country and in Paris, France, the film also won the award for Best International Film at the Terra Di Siena Film Festival in Italy, Best Narrative Feature at the BlackStar Film Festival in Philadelphia, and Best Feature Film and Best Overall at the Bronzelens Film Festival in Atlanta.
