President Barack Obama “Bringing the Audacity of Hope to Boys in the Hood”
By Pastor E. A. Deckard (Houston Forward Times) – I once heard a quote from an unknown source that was so powerful, I never forget it and have used it in many different variations throughout the years: “the dream of a dreamer only comes true if the dreamer has the faith to see it all the way through.” President Barack Obama represents the ultimate dreamer and the 21st century model of the unlimited possibilities of a faithful dreamer in America.
Yes, America has a litany of problems but America is still the greatest place to live in the world, especially for a dreamer willing to work hard and endure hardships without giving up. Boxing promoter, Don King would often say, “Only in America can a man come out of the slums and become somebody great.” President Barack Obama took that saying all the way to the White House as he became the 1st Black (African American) President of the United States of America.
Today, across America, because a Black man rules the most powerful nation in the world, a new generation of dreamers are dreaming under an unlimited sky of possibilities. There was a time no one could have imagined an African American in the White House but today, there is a new reality to consider; and that is, children under the age of eight have never lived in an America that did not have a Black President. President Barack Obama created a new reality in America and will leave a mark that history cannot erase.
Before President Barack Obama (I refuse to address him as anything other than President Barack Obama; because the racists and critics have insulted his name in a historically disgraceful manner, I will always honor him as Mr. President) was sworn in as president on January 20th, 2009, the dreams of the boys in the hood were often limited to sports, entertainment, and illegal activities―but President Barack Obama changed the game forever. President Obama could have easily been the inspiration behind the hit rap song by Drake, “Started from the Bottom [Now We Here]”, because his life story represents the audacity of hope to every little boy and girl in every hood across America.
