Golf Legend Calvin Peete Will Be Featured at Drum Major for Justice Heritage Golf Classic Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington
“Although progress was slow, the civil rights movement had a tremendous impact on golf,” says Lowery, founder and chair, (SCLC/W.O.M.E.N.). “Once the PGA of America removed the Caucasian-only clause, the door was open for African American’s to participate in professional tournaments. Calvin Peete drove through that door and became the most successful Black golfer until Tiger Woods emerged.”
Sponsored by Delta Airlines, the annual event will feature prizes including Delta Airline tickets, a silent auction, and reception. For entry requirements and sponsorship information contact SCLC/W.O.M.E.N. Inc. at 404-584-0303.
