Atlanta – Residents of Atlanta City Council District 2 will have yet another chance to get free back to school supplies before the first day of class for city students.

Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall, AIM for Youth, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding will host a “District 2 Back-2-School Community Kids Day” on Saturday, August 7 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The free event will be at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding, 35 Jesse Hill Jr. Drive SE.

“In District 2, we value education so much that we come together as a community to get our kids ready for school,” said Hall. “Thanks to generous partners, we can also take parents’ minds off some of the costs that come with the start of a new school year,” which begins Monday, August 9.

Kids and their families will receive free school supplies, haircuts, healthy snacks and opportunities to participate in activities designed to bring awareness and education to major heath issues affecting children today. Activities include free health, vision and dental screenings, diabetes, obesity, sickle cell, asthma, and HIV/AIDS education, fire and police safety, and other activities emphasizing education, exercise, and nutrition.

Partners for the event include NIKE, Nationwide Insurance, DTLR, the Chauncey Davis Foundation, and the Sweet Auburn Curb Market.

“All school-aged children deserve to be well prepared to begin a healthy school year,” said Alma G. Davis, Founder and CEO of AIM for Youth. “AIM for Youth encourages youth to live healthy lifestyles and succeed in school, while making sure they are equipped to do both.”
